DENVER CITY, Texas — The Coahoma High School boys golf team put itself in prime position to advance to the regional tournament following the opening round of the District 3-3A Tournament on Tuesday at Yoakum County Golf Course.
Sitting in second place after 18 holes, the Bulldogs’ No. 1 team holds a five-stroke lead over third-place Denver City. In District 3-3A, the top two teams and the top two individuals not on those teams qualify for the regional tournament.
The Coahoma No. 1 boys posted a team score of 334, trailing only Compass No. 1 (298) in the nine-team field. Lanson Moore led the Bulldogs with an 80, followed by Jayden Henderson (83), Boyd Cox (85), and Aiden Olivarez (86). Ryker Smith rounded out the top squad with a 91.
Coahoma’s No. 2 team sits in fifth place with a 366, led by Kavan Kaczyk’s 89 and Jared Nieto’s 90. Rounding out the team’s performance were Kaden Baker (93), Andyn Rodriguez (94), and Braxton Richters (97).
In the individual medalist race, Kelton Froman turned in a strong performance for Coahoma, shooting an 86. Other Bulldogs competing as medalists included Turtle Renfro (95) and Ty Rechichar (99).

The Coahoma girls team finished the opening round in fourth place with a team total of 416.
Kinzlyn Kemper paced the girls’ team with a 95, followed by Layla Buchanan (100). Gabby Cox finished with 110, Paisley Osborn shot 111, and Landri Phernetton shot a 112.
Among the individual medalists, Addison Woodard led the Coahoma contingent with a 110, while Paityn Kilpatrick shot a 121 and Haydn Musgrove carded a 129.
Up Next: The CHS golf team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 31, at Comanche Trail Park golf course for the final round of the District 3-3A tournament.
