COAHOMA, Texas — Led by a top-five individual performance from Lanson Moore, the Coahoma High School varsity golf team secured a third-place finish at the Denver City Invitational recently.

​Competing at the Yoakum County Golf Course, Coahoma No. 1 posted a total score of 331, narrowly edging out Idalou No. 1 (332) and Lubbock Trinity (334) to claim a spot on the podium. Bushland took the top team spot with a 312, followed by Crane at 326.

​Moore anchored the Bulldogs’ performance, carding a 76 to finish fifth overall in the individual medalist standings. He finished just four strokes behind co-medalists Kallaway Soto of Idalou and Bryson Roberts of Big Spring, who both shot 72.

​The Coahoma No. 1 scorecard was rounded out by Boyd Cox (82), Aiden Olivarez (84), Ryker Smith (89), and Jayden Henderson (97).

​Coahoma’s depth was also on display as the No. 2 team finished ninth in the 12-team field with a total of 365. Andyn Rodriguez led the second unit with an 85, followed by Braxton Richters (92), Kavan Kaczyk (92), and Jared Nieto (96).

​The Bulldogs’ strong showing in Denver City continues a competitive spring season as the team prepares for upcoming district play. Round one of the District 3-3A meet will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Yoakum County Golf Course near Denver City.
