​BIG SPRING, Texas — The Coahoma High School golf program made a statement on its home turf this week as the Bulldogs’ top squad captured the boys team title at the Coahoma Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday at Comanche Trail Park.

​The Bulldogs’ No. 1 team carded a collective 313 to outpace Miles (321) and Greenwood (338) for the tournament victory. The win capped off a successful stretch for Coahoma, which also saw strong individual and team performances at the Rumble at Ratliff in Odessa on Feb. 23.

​Coahoma’s depth was the story at Comanche Trail . The championship-winning No. 1 team was led by Lanson Moore and Aiden Olivarez, who both fired rounds of 76. Olivarez’ performance earned him a tie for fourth place in the medalist standings. Jayden Henderson followed closely with a 78, while Boy Cox (83) and Ryker Smith (85) rounded out the scoring.

​The Bulldogs’ second team finished eighth overall with a 365, paced by an 81 from Braxton Richters. The No. 3 team placed 14th in the 21-team field, led by Andyn Rodriguez (88) and Kavan Kaczyk (92). Wyatt Bean of Ozona took home the individual gold with a 74.

​In the girls' division, Coahoma earned a fifth-place team finish with a score of 422. Kinzlyn Kemper led the Bulldogettes with a 92, while Gabby Cox (106) and Landri Phernetton (107) also turned in solid rounds.

​The race for the podium was tight, as Ozona claimed the team title with a 382. Forsan and Crane battled for the runner-up spot, both finishing with a 402. After a tiebreaker, Forsan took second place while Crane settled for third.

​Success in Odessa

​ODESSA — At Ratliff Ranch Golf Course, Coahoma’s No. 2 team surged to a runner-up finish with a team score of 367, finishing behind only Garden City (336).

​The highlight of the Odessa meet was the play of Ryker Smith, who shot an 85 to finish second overall in the medalist standings, just one stroke behind winner Owen Orsak of Sterling City.

​The Coahoma No. 1 team finished in fourth with a score of 380, led by Aiden Olivarez’ 90 and Braxton Richters’ 94.

​For the Bulldogettes in Odessa, Layla Buchanan posted a 111 and Landri Phernetton finished with a 131.

​Up Next: The Bulldogs and Bulldogettes travel to Denver City to tackle the Yoakum County Golf Course. The boys compete Tuesday, March 10, followed by the girls on Wednesday, March 11. The Bulldog JV team will compete at the Hermleigh High School meet next Wednesday at the Sammy Baugh Golf Course.
