It was a banner day for Coahoma track and field on Thursday as the Varsity team combined for eight medals and both Junior Varsity squads captured team championships at the CHS Invitational.

The JV Bulldogettes led the way with a commanding 238 points to take first place, while the JV Bulldogs secured a narrow victory with 157.5 points to edge out Compass Academy.

On the varsity side, senior Andre Rushin spearheaded a solid afternoon for the Bulldogs. Rushin collected four individual medals, highlighted by a gold-medal performance in the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, 11.5 inches. He added silver medals in both the 100-meter dash (11.12 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (23.55 seconds), and rounded out his day by finishing fourth in the long jump.

Distance runner Hunter Chavez provided a significant points boost for the varsity squad, earning second-place finishes in both the 1,600-meter run, clocking in at 5:06, and the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:12.43. Chavez also placed fourth in the 800-meter run.

In varsity girls' action, junior Oakley Lewis led the Bulldogettes in the field events. Lewis earned a silver medal in the discus with a toss of 97 feet, 5 inches, and followed up with a fourth-place finish in the shot put.

Other varsity medalists for Coahoma included Noel Loya, who took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.81 seconds, and Emmett Alexander, who cleared 11 feet, 6 inches to take bronze in the pole vault.

The JV Bulldogettes’ dominant team win was fueled by a string of first-place finishes. Aziah Shifflett took gold in the 400-meter dash and the high jump, while Areyanna Loe swept the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Other event winners included Belle Hollaman in the 200-meter dash, Kaylee Edmondson in the long jump, Paisley Walden in the triple jump, Hailey Breckenridge in the shot put, and Brailyn Redden in the discus. The Bulldogettes also claimed victory in the 4x400-meter relay.

The JV Bulldogs relied on a balanced attack to secure their team title. Individual winners included J. De Los Santos in the 100-meter dash, Jahziel Colon in the 200-meter dash, Drayke Shifflett in the 400-meter dash, and Alex Porter in the 1,600-meter run. In the field, Jayden Parnell took first in the discus and Anthony Foltz won the triple jump.
