ODESSA, Texas — The Coahoma High School band is advancing to the UIL Area marching contest after receiving superior ratings for its 2025 show, “Sparkle,” last Saturday.
The band earned three straight Division I (superior) ratings from the judges in the 3A Division at the UIL Region 6 marching contest. The competition was held at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2025.
By earning a Division I rating, the Big Red Band qualified for the UIL Area Contest, scheduled for Nov. 1 at Lowery Field in Lubbock.
Coahoma will face strong competition from 19 other 3A bands that also advanced from their respective UIL region contests. The band is scheduled to perform at 4:15 p.m. in the preliminary round. Ten bands will advance to the finals held later that night at Lowery Field, and only four will qualify for state competition.
In 2024, the Coahoma band finished seventh in the UIL area finals. That performance marked the first time since 2016 that Coahoma advanced to the area finals.
