LUBBOCK, TX – The Coahoma High School cross country team got a sneak peek at their regional competition this past Saturday at the Lubbock ISD Invitational.
The event, held at Mae Simmons Park, served as a precursor, as the park will host both the District 3-3A cross country meet next week and the regional meet on October 20-21.
Facing challenging terrain alongside runners from dozens of 3A schools across West Texas, the Bulldogs delivered a solid performance.
Sophomore Hunter Chavez led the boys' team, finishing 44th out of 151 competitors with a time of 19 minutes, 38 seconds. Following closely for Coahoma was Anthony Foltz, who secured 63rd place, clocking in at 20:08.7. Kelton Froman (68th, 20:13.7), Ivan Gariby (106th, 21:45.5), Karson Kelson (116th, 22:10.1), and Ricky Rodriguez (24:57.6) rounded out the Bulldog effort. Their combined performance earned the team 15th place out of 20 competing schools.
On the girls' side, junior Andrea Rochelle was the first Bulldogette to cross the finish line, placing 122nd with a time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds. Junior Kimberly Fortenberry finished strong in 142nd place (18:02.1), followed by Kayleigh Edmondson (149th, 18:59.1) and Nevaeh Nair (159th, 20:53.7).
Up Next: The culmination of months of hard work for the Coahoma runners will be on October 8, when they return to Mae Simmons Park for the District 3-3A meet.
