MIDLAND, Texas — The Coahoma High School cross-country team tested its stamina for the first time this season against a large field of competitors at the Tall City Invitational on Saturday, held at Holgan Park.
Both the boys' and girls' teams posted a solid performance, which they can build upon as the 2025 season progresses.
The Bulldogs' boys' team was led by a pair of underclassmen in the Division 2, 5K race. Sophomore Hunter Chavez was the top finisher for Coahoma, placing 34th (19:15.50) out of 109 competitors. He was quickly followed across the finish line by freshman Anthony Foltz, who placed 39th with a time of 19 minutes, 32.42 seconds.
Coahoma had four more runners finish the race in under 22 minutes: Karson Kelso, 68th (20:26:49); Kelton Froman, 70th (20:29.62); Ricky Rodriguez, 95th place (21:10.10); and Ivan Garibay, 110th (21:43.06).
Additional Bulldog runners included Alexander Porter, 132nd (22:38.13); Hayden Walker, 142nd (22:59.61); Andy Carl Edmondson, 160th (24:11.22); Kamdyn Martinez, 176th (25:25.18); Ethan Harjo, 178th (25:34.43); and Joseph Richters, 180th (26:03.26). The Bulldogs’ efforts paid off with an 8th-place team finish out of 21 schools.
In the girls' Division 2, 3,200-meter race, freshman Elizabeth Mashburn led the way for the Bulldogettes. She finished in 68th place with a time of 15 minutes and 31.41 seconds. Mashburn was joined in the top 100 by Emma Rodriguez in 81st place (16:03.01) and Andrea Rochelle in 88th (16:30.12).
Rounding out the team's performance were Kayleigh Edmondson in 114th (17:48.12) and Nevaeh Nairn in 134th (20:58.83). The girls' team finished 18th in the team standings.
Next Up: The Coahoma team will look to build on its momentum when they compete on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Eric Stinson Invitational at Comanche Trail Park in Big Spring.
