Boy lifting weights

The Coahoma Powerlifting girls team placed second and the boys team placed third in their host meet on Saturday. 

In addition to the team victory, Christian Everett earned her second Outstanding Lifter award  in the light platform division of the season. The CHS junior ended the meet with a three-lift total of 590 pounds of iron to win first place in her weight class. She currently stands first in her weight class in Region 1. 

Overall, Coahoma powerlifters earned four gold, three silver, and one bronze.

Also earning gold for the Bulldogettes was Serena Dobbs. She hoisted 610 pounds of iron for the day. For the Bulldogs, Eugene Vasquez (585) and Nick Gonzales (1230) placed first in their respective events. Earning silver for Coahoma were Nevaeh Kerby (505), Vada Cortez (640), and Savannah Meacham (495). Hector Colon-Rivera placed third in his respective weight class with a three-lift total of 925.

In team standings, Big Spring swept the invitational placing first in both the girls and boys divisions. In the boys division, Forsan finished second, Coahoma third, Roscoe Collegiate was fourth, and Roscoe Highland placed fifth to round out the top five. The top five girls teams following Big Spring were: Coahoma, second; Stanton, third; San Angelo Grape Creek, fourth; and Kermit, fifth. 

Next: Coahoma Power travels to Stanton to compete on Saturday, Feb. 5.
