WALL — The Coahoma High School track team had a very good day at the 5&6 3-A Area meet on Thursday The team captured eight gold medals and advanced in 11 events to the Region I 3-A contest.
The Coahoma boys relay team won the 4x100 meter and the 4x200 meter race. The team of JR Emerson, Sean Striegler, Billy Bailey, and Austin Perkins clocked a time of 44.46 to capture gold while the 4x200 team of Emerson, Bailey, Striegler, and Tristian Guerrero finished first with a time of 1:32.70.
Striegler picked up gold in the 200 meter dash and bronze in the long jump. Christian Everett finished ahead of the pack in the 100 meter dash. She clocked 12.92 at the finish line to capture gold.
Vance Ott brought home three golds in the wheelchair events. He threw a 20-03.50 in shot put, finished the 100 yard dash in 21.20 and the 400 yard dash in 1:04.39.
In field events, MaKynlee Overton’s strong arm took gold in the girls shot put with a throw of 36-00.00. Ashton Kimball earned silver in the boys shot put. He threw a distance of 45-03.75.
Rounding out the top Coahoma finishers of the day, Emerson earned bronze in the 200 meter dash and Julia Cox finished fourth in the girls 200 meter dash. Both athletes will move on to the region meet.
The Region 1 3-A track meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Abilene Christian University in Abilene. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and $18 for a two-day pass.
