Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared January 2021 as School Board Recognition Month. Serving as a link between the community and classroom, school board trustees establish the policies that provide the framework for public schools. Coahoma ISD thanks all our school board members, who spend countless hours working to provide the best possible education for our students.

Scott Tutle

Serving as the board secretary, Scott Tutle was elected to his position in 2019. He is the MidSouth Region Manager for Symborg Inc. and has 15 years of experience in the agricultural industry.

With his own children attending Coahoma schools, Scott is personally invested in providing the best education to Coahoma youths.

“The school is the heart of our community and the students are our future,” he said. “I want to do my part to help make sure our students, school, and community are successful.”

Over the past year, the Coahoma ISD board members have found themselves in the unique position of steering the district through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A huge thank you to our teachers, staff, and administration who have successfully navigated through this crazy time and ensured our students' needs have been met,” Scott said.

Kandy Alaman

Kandy Alaman is the CISD board president and has served as a trustee for the past seven years. A graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, she has been a pharmacist for the past 16 years.

She is married to David Alaman and the couple have two children who attend Coahoma schools. Emma is 13 years old and Ava is 11.

“I have always had a passion for learning, even when I was a student,” she said. “I wanted to be able to serve our community in a way that would benefit students and promote learning. I take great pleasure in being on the CISD Board of Trustees and am grateful for this opportunity.

Odis Franklin

Odis Franklin has served as a trustee on the Coahoma ISD board for the past two years. With a  background in education, Odis understands the issues teachers and staff struggle with on a daily basis.

He was employed for 28 years in public schools and served 16 at Coahoma. He now uses his past experience to help the board craft policies to provide the best education for our students. Odis said he ran for the position because he wanted “to make a positive impact for faculty and students.”

Stormy Bradley

Stormy Bradley has served on the CISD board of trustees since May of 2020. She is a business owner and operates two steel businesses in the community of Coahoma. Stormy has more than a decade of experience in the construction business.

Before she became an entrepreneur, Stormy worked as a nurse at a local hospital and continues to keep a current nursing license for the state of Texas.

Stormy said she sought to serve her community as an elected board member because she wanted “to help lead, guide, and impact t/he future including my own children. I love our community, and I love that I am able to give back in a leadership capacity. I look forward to increasing my involvement and impact across our community and county.”

Michael Brooks

Michael Brooks has served as a Coahoma ISD trustee for a total of 10 years. He was first elected in 2010 and continued to serve until 2019 before stepping down for a year. He brings 14 years of experience as a farmer to the board. Michael said he decided to seek public office because he wanted to make a difference for the students, staff, and taxpayers of the district and feels it’s a “great honor to serve on the board of CISD.”

Dicky Stone

Dicky Stone’s roots in the Coahoma community are strong and deep. He is a 1971 graduate of Coahoma High School, taught at Coahoma ISD, and has served as a board member for the past six years. In all, Dicky has 50 years invested in CISD. After his retirement, he continues to serve in education and works part-time at Big Spring ISD. Dicky ran for public office because he wanted to support and help Coahoma ISD to provide the best education for its students.

Brandon Atkins

Brandon Atkins is serving his second elected term of office, and is the vice president of the CISD board. He has 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, and is a partner in H&P Boring Services.

Brandon is a father of three children, all of whom have attended or are attending Coahoma schools. Cutter, his oldest, is enrolled at Texas Tech University. Tanner, a senior, will be attending Tech in the fall, and Rowdy is a sophomore at CHS.

As a board member elected to represent the community he loves, Brandon wants to make sure every child has a voice.

“I want them to have the opportunity to learn and grow into who they are meant to be,” he said. “It’s not an easy task, but it’s one of the most important roles I have. Listening to all sides before I make a decision is something I’ve learned with age....and raising three boys.”
