STANTON — The Bulldogs narrowed the gap on an 11-point deficit in the second half of their district game against the Buffaloes on Tuesday, but Stanton snatched away the victory in the last minute of the game to win 38-34.

The Bulldogs faced an uphill battle when they returned from the locker room for the second half after Stanton outscored them 19-7 in the second quarter. However, Coahoma methodically chipped away at the score until they pulled within one point to tie the game in the fourth. Stanton was able to force a few turnovers and take advantage of some Bulldog fouls to secure the win.

“We committed a little bit more to defensive stops (in the second half),” said Bulldog Head Basketball Coach Joe Mireles. “I told them it was going to be one possession at a time. They played hard. It’s unfortunate that the ball didn’t bounce our way tonight. They are a good team. Hopefully we can clean up some of the mistakes and get ready for Friday night.”

D’Kota Harrison and Raheem Ashford led the way for the Bulldogs in the second half. Harrison, who was the top scorer for Coahoma, got six of his ten points in the third and fourth quarter. Ashford scored five of his seven points for the match in the second half.

The Bulldogs had a big third quarter outscoring Stanton 12-7. Tony Hagins nailed the second of his 3-point goals and helped to energize the Bulldogs. Coahoma went 3-3 at the foul line in the third thanks to solid shots by Isaiah Martin, Billy Bailey, and Ryan Shifflett.

Next: Coahoma heads south to Sonora on Friday for a district match up against the Broncos. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The JV game begins at 6 p.m.
