Coahoma High School is proud to announce the top two students of the Class of 2026. Bree Lewis has been named Valedictorian, and Madisyn Renteria has been named Salutatorian.
Bree Lewis, the daughter of Paul and Cassie Lewis, takes the top academic honor for the Class of 2026. A multi-sport student-athlete, Lewis balanced her academic load with a busy high school athletic career, earning local, regional, and state honors.
As a four-year varsity athlete in volleyball, track and field, basketball, and softball, Lewis has left her name in the CHS record books.
In track and field, she is a two-time state qualifier, the 2024 state silver medalist in shot put, and holds the school record in the event with a throw of 41 feet, 5 inches. She also qualified for the 2025 AAU Junior Olympics in both shot put and discus.
On the diamond, Lewis played for Coahoma’s three-time 3A state champion softball team, earning Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State First Baseman honors. On the volleyball court, she was twice named the District Offensive MVP and finished her career with 1,351 kills. She was also a member of the 2026 Region I finalist varsity basketball team.
Beyond sports and academics, Lewis served her campus as the president of the Student Council and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also took higher education courses during her high school years, and earned a spot on the Howard College President’s List. She was recognized as a Big Spring Rotary Student of the Month.
Following graduation, Lewis will attend West Texas A&M University in Canyon to continue her education and athletic career in track and field. She plans to earn a bachelor's degree in health sciences before entering the radiologic technologist program.
Her advice to younger students is, “Be proud of where you come from and always look to the Lord for guidance.” Her favorite scripture is Psalm 118:24: “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Madisyn Renteria, the daughter of Samantha and Alex Rodriguez, and Jeremy and Katy Renteria, has been named the Class of 2026 Salutatorian.
Renteria balanced academic achievement with athletic and career-focused pursuits. Renteria was a four-year varsity athlete in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. She was a key member of the varsity basketball team’s run to the Region I championship finals and was recognized as the All-District 3-3A Co-MVP. On the volleyball court, her play earned her a spot on the All-District 3-3A First Team.
In the classroom and community, Renteria was an active member of the National Honor Society. Preparing for her future in healthcare, she earned both her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and phlebotomy certifications while in high school.
This fall, Renteria will attend Texas Tech University to pursue a degree in kinesiology. She plans to work as a physical therapist while earning her doctorate degree.
Her advice to younger students is, “Life will throw so many obstacles at you, it's important that you never give up and keep pushing till the end.” Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11: “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.'”
Coahoma High School will celebrate the entire graduating class during a commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Bill Easterling Memorial Field.
