Student smiling at parents after she signs to play softball at college

Coahoma High School standout Brook Pike is headed to the collegiate ranks after signing with the Oklahoma Wesleyan University softball team during a ceremony Wednesday in the high school auditorium.

Pike, a versatile utility player for the Bulldogettes, is slated to join the Eagles next season. Oklahoma Wesleyan, located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, competes in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

During the ceremony, Pike expressed gratitude to the teammates, coaches, and family members who supported her journey.

"To my parents, thank you for always supporting me and pushing me and believing in me even on days when I doubted myself," Pike said. "To my coaches, thank you for challenging me and helping me grow not just as a player but as a person. I am so excited for this next chapter and I am proud to represent everyone who has helped me on my way."

On the field, Pike has been an asset for Coahoma, seeing time at catcher, shortstop, and second base. Head softball coach Alex Orosco highlighted Pike’s work ethic and coachability as her defining traits.

"I’ve seen Pike run the field, dive on bases, and slide more than just about any other kid," Orosco said. "One thing that sets her apart from others is that she wants to be told what she needs to practice to get better. That is going to make her a great college player."

Pike and the Bulldogettes are currently 14-2 on the season and lead District 3-3A with a 5-1 record. The team is currently working toward a fourth consecutive Class 3A state championship.
