Color Guard twirling flags and raffles at competition

Fifteen groups from area schools including Coahoma, Big Spring, and Forsan performed at the Howard County Winter Guard Festival held in the Howard College Dorothy Garrett Coliseum recently.

Winter Guard is an indoor competition for color guards performing choreographed, artful dance routines to music while using equipment such as flags, riffles, and sabers. Two area drum lines also competed in the percussion category.

The Howard County Festival was one of the few West Texas venues this year, which allowed area schools to perform without having to travel to a major metropolitan area.

To cap off the winter guard contest portion of the festival, the CHS winter guard gave an exhibition performance. The event was sponsored by the Coahoma High School Band and the CHS band boosters.

Results from the contest are as follows:
Cadet Class — 1. Fort Stockton; 2. Denver City.
Novice Class — 1. Fort Stockton; 2. Perryton; 3. Sweetwater
Regional A Class — 1. Canyon; 2. TLCA-San Angelo; 3. Lubbock Monterey
Percussion — 1. Abilene Cooper; 2. TLCA-San Angelo
