Billy Bailey's performance on the gridiron for the Coahoma Bulldogs this past fall grabbed the attention of several members of the Texas Sports Writers Association.

They remembered him when it came time to pass out state honors. The Coahoma High School junior was recently named to the TSWA’s 2022 3A All-State Football team honorable mention list as a utility player.

“Billy exemplifies the F.A.M.I.L.Y. (Forget About Me. I Love You) culture we are trying to cultivate here at Coahoma Athletics,” said Chris Joslin, Coahoma ISD athletic director and head football coach. “He has a selfless devotion to his teammates. He is willing to put the team first and do whatever is best to help us be successful. I am proud of him and excited to see his work ethic has led him to receiving state recognition.”

During the 2022 football season, Bailey proved an asset on both sides of the line. Offensively Bailey averaged 16 yards per catch in 27 receptions and three touchdowns. Defensively Bailey had four interceptions and made 61 tackles. For his performance, Bailey was named to the 2022 4-3A All-District football team as both a wide receiver and defensive back.

TSWA members are sports writers and sports editors from daily and weekly newspapers from across the state of Texas as well as sports internet services.
