BIG SPRING — Coahoma’s Bree Lewis threw a 37-3 in the shot put to set a school record and win gold at the Howard County Invitational meet held at Blankenship Field on Thursday.
The Bulldogette varsity team opened the season with a champion title win thanks to the team’s strong performance in the relay and field events. The Bulldogettes finished the meet with a score of 145. Brownfield was second and scored 76, and Wink scored 71 to finish third.
For the Bulldogette squad, the relay teams were dominant, finishing first in the 4x100 meter, 4x200 meter, and 4x400 meter races. Last year’s regional qualifier Cayhill Lewis won gold in the discus with a throw of 103-08, and Addison Collier earned silver after tallying a 90-4 throw.
Christian Everett and Nevaeh Kerby finished second and third respectively in both the long jump and triple jump. Kaedyn Lee clocked in a time of 28.70 in the 200 meter dash to earn silver. Everett earned bronze in the 100 meter race crossing the finish line at 13.73. Baylor Wright finished third in the high jump. She cleared 4-08. The Bulldogette JV team also turned in a stellar performance and won the division with a score of 179.
On the Bulldog side, both the varsity and JV teams came in as runners up with scores of 158 and 171 in their respective divisions. Tristan Guerrero clocked a time of 51.63 in the 400 meter race to win gold and won bronze in the 200 meter race with a time of 23.20. He also won silver in the long jump with a distance of 20-07. Reagan Chapman finished second and third respectively in the 110 meter Hurdles and 300 meter Hurdles. He also cleared 6-0 in the high jump to finish second.
Nick Gonzales threw a 42-00 in shot put to pick up first place. Billy Bailey cleared 40-9 in the triple jump for gold. Austin Perkins won silver in the same event with a jump of 40-07, and he placed third in the long jump. The Bulldog relay teams had a standout day. They finished first in the 4x400 meter race and second in both the 4x100 meter and 4x200 meter races.
