STANTON, Texas — The Coahoma Junior High track and field teams delivered a strong performance at the Stanton Buffalo Junior High Invitational this past week, highlighted by a first-place overall team finish for the 7th-grade Bulldogettes.
The 7th-grade girls' team won the championship with 126 points, edging out Compass Academy (119) and Forsan (100). The victory was fueled by dominant individual performances from Ausiana Jackson and Maleah Hurlburt. Jackson claimed gold in the 400-meter dash (1:02.68), the long jump (15-02.25), and the triple jump (30-04.00). Hurlburt mirrored that success, taking first in the 200-meter dash (29.38) and finishing just behind Jackson for second place in both the long and triple jumps.
The 7th-grade girls also swept the top spots in the relay events, winning both the 4x100 and 4x400. In the field, Pace'Lei Lance added to the gold medal count with a first-place finish in the discus (56-06).
The 8th-grade Bulldogettes finished fifth in their division with 71 points. The team was led by a powerhouse performance in the pole vault, where Jocelyn Sheppard took first place (7-00.00) and Jaida Sheppard followed in second. The 8th-grade girls' 4x100 relay team also won a gold medal with a time of 57.05, while Covy Brock earned a silver medal in the shot put (29-01.00).
On the boys' side, 7th-grader James Strong led the Bulldogs with a first-place finish in the triple jump (32-06.00) and a third-place finish in the long jump. The 7th-grade boys finished fifth overall in the team standings with 52 points. The 8th-grade Bulldogs finished seventh overall with 26 points and were led by Travis McKiski, who earned a silver medal in the pole vault (7-06.00) and a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run.
