The Coahoma Junior High School (CJHS) academic team won the District 3-3A, Zone 1 championship at the recent University Interscholastic League (UIL) contest, after achieving the distinction of placing in every single event.

Coahoma was the only school in the competition to accomplish this sweep.

“Students have worked hard this year, and their dedication paid off,” said Katie Valencia, CJHS UIL coordinator. “Last year, our school earned Runner-up, and this year our goal was to be back on top, and we did just that.

“The realization that we placed every event, whether as an individual, team, or both, was very exciting and further demonstrated how hard our students have worked,” Valencia continued. “I am extremely thankful to our event coaches that dedicated their time to helping our students be successful. Without their time and effort, this would not have been possible.”

The team's dominant performance included 18 first-place individual finishes and 13 first-place team finishes, which propelled the school to the overall district title.

The CJHS One-Act Play also contributed to the school's overall standings, finishing third in the district contest and earning eight individual honors for its cast and crew members.

The final overall school standings were: 1. Coahoma, 2. Denver City, 3. Brownfield, 4. Lamesa.

Valencia served as the UIL Coordinator for Coahoma Junior High School and One-Act Play director. Individual event coaches included Candy Parrish, Joni Lacefield, Jayden Holt, Krystal Tutle, KC Rater, Greg Brown, Katy Renteria, Coley Dobbs, Krystal Walden, and Gloria Martinez.
