Brad Cox steps into CISD superintendent position

The Coahoma ISD Board of Trustees officially named Brad Cox to the superintendent position Tuesday night.

“Dr. Amy Jacobs has set CISD along a great path,” Cox said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the CISD board and staff in continuing this path for our students and community.”

Cox brings 17 years of experience in the education field to the job and has served as the assistant superintendent at Coahoma since 2014.

He started his career at ECISD. He then went to De Leon ISD where he was hired as a coach and teacher. Cox served as the head football coach at Klondike ISD for three seasons before he was hired at his alma mater, Grady High School, as the head football coach and athletic director.

Cox is a 2002 graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and earned his master’s degree from UTPB in 2009.

Effective Tuesday, Cox officially filled the shoes of Dr. Jacobs who moves into a advisory position to help with the transition through the district’s fiscal year. Dr. Jacobs announced in October of her departure in the fall of 2019 to work in the nonprofit industry.

In December, trustees named Cox as the lone finalist for the position to replace Dr. Jacobs, who has served as the CISD superintendent since March of 2012. Trustees were required by state law to wait 21 days before making the official hire.

Coahoma ISD is a 3A district in rural west Texas located in east Howard County serving 1,100 students in grades pre kindergarten through 12th grade.
