Clark-Burdell earns a game high of 22 points

STANTON — Gage Clark-Burdell had a game high of 22 points to help lead the Bulldogs to their first district win Friday, 53-47, against 5-3A district rival Stanton.

After an intense game, Coahoma Head Boys Basketball Coach Joe Mireles said his team’s performance this season shows they are driven to excel.

“The boys continue to hustle,” Mireles said. “They are working hard. They want the wins bad.”

Stanton took control of the game early building a comfortable lead of 13-4 by the end of the first quarter before the Bulldogs surged back to take over the game by half 25-22.

Returning from the locker rooms, the Buffaloes ramped up the game by going on a 6-point drive and wrestling away the lead from Coahoma.

Gaige Hill halted the Stanton advance by nailing a field goal with 3:53 left in the quarter while drawing a foul from a Buffalo. Hill buried the ball from the free throw line to tie the game 28-28. The two teams traded the lead back and forth in high intensity basketball

In the fourth quarter, Clark-Burdell gave the Bulldogs the push they needed to take control of the game for the final time by nailing a shot from behind the arc.

Zack Schneider and Bryson Cline both contributed 8 points each to the overall score in the Coahoma victory Friday night.
