Students holding medals and awards

The Coahoma High School One Act Play (OAP) cast and crew wrapped up a banner year after three members earned honors for their part in the production of “Emma's Child” at Bi-District competition held recently.

“I am proud of how hard our students worked to develop their characters and the concept of the play over the last few months,” said Jaurdin Scammel, One-Act Play sponsor and director. “The cast and crew pulled together to develop an excellent and competitive performance this year, and it shows in our results. This is the first time in six years that a CHS OAP has advanced on from district competition.”

The talented performance by Colin Daniels, who plays the pivotal role of Henry Farell, earned him a position on the Bi-District All-Star Cast. Cailey Glover was named to the Honorable Mention cast for her portrayal of Franny Stornant, and the judges also took notice of  the technical work by Alex Grant, the stage manager for the production. Grant was given the Tech Award.

“Emma’s Child,” by Kristine Thatcher tells the heart wrenching story of a married couple who decides to adopt after years of unsuccessfully attempting to have a child of their own. During the 45-minute production, the characters struggle with an emotional journey of death, disappointment, and the prospect of beginning again.

The CHS production earned first place at District 5-3A contest held earlier in the year and several members received awards for their individual performances.

Colin Daniels was named the Best Performer. Aubrey Green, Olivia Davidson, and Hartlie Smithie were named to the All Star Cast. Cailey Glover and Dillion Sorrells were listed on the Honorable Mention Cast. Grayson Glidewell received the “Tech Award” for his lighting work.

Other members of the award-winning show were Faith Raspe as Tess McGarrett and crew members were Tanner Atkins, Emajin Braxton, Ethan Cason, and Bryden Fontana. Katy Manning was an honorary cast member.

The CHS theater department will present a public showing of its award-winning play later this year.
