Softball players giving a high-five

The Bulldogette softball team heads into district competition on high note after defeating Snyder and Pecos on Friday and Saturday respectively. 

Makayla Calvio earned the 6-2 win against 4A Snyder while in the circle. The freshman pitcher gave up two runs from seven hits and one walk over seven innings, while striking out five. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate. 

Jocelyn Torres-Mendoza tripled and drove home three runs on Friday. Madison Rodgers was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. 

On Saturday, Coahoma shut out 4A Pecos, 12-0. Pitcher MaKynlee Overton led the Bulldogettes to victory with one hit, one walk, and six strikeouts over five innings. She also hit a double and scored a run. 

Torres-Mendoza ripped another triple, drove home three runs, and scored a run. Christian Everett was 2-for-4 at the plate, scored a run and had a two RBI day. M. Rodgers scored two runs, drew two walks and had one RBI. The quick feet of Shae Lang and Karleigh Burt were a big asset to Coahoma. Lang scored three runs and Burt earned two. 

The Bulldogettes were fleet-footed on the base paths. They stole 10 bases over the seven innings led by Calvio with three and Torres-Mendoza with two.

Next: The Bulldogettes (7-5) open District 5-3A play on Tuesday with a home game against the Crane Lady Birds. The varsity game plays at 5 p.m. with the JV game to follow.
