Coach congratulating a baseball player

A big 10-run fifth inning sealed the Bulldogs 16-9 win against the Colorado Wolves on Tuesday night.

After trailing from the third inning, Ky Kemper started off a Bulldog offensive assault. Kemper hit a fly ball to right field for two RBIs, which tied the game at 7-7 in the fifth inning. Coahoma’s second score came after Kobe Cervantes ripped a ground ball giving Billy Starr enough time to cross home plate. Then Kemper added a second run taking full advantage of a passed ball to score.

Hitting next at-bat, freshman Billy Bailey broke open the game for Coahoma by ripping a homer over the left field fence for three RBIs, which gave the Bulldogs a five-point lead (12-7).

Continuing the streak, Nick Gonzales, Starr and Kemper belted doubles to bring in three more runs before the inning was over. Catcher Logan Saverence brought in the last score for the Bulldogs after he drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the six inning.

Coming in as relief for starting pitcher Kolt Redden, Bailey ended the game with two straight strikes out in the seventh to give Coahoma its six win of the season.

Redden was credited with the win. He went five innings, threw 106 pitches, got 61 strikes, and 10 strikes outs. Bailey led the Bulldogs at the plate. He went 4-for-5, with one home run, two doubles and earned four RBIs and one run. Seth Brooks was 3-for-6 with three runs for the day. Kemper was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and one RBI.

Next: Coahoma (6-4) heads to Crane on today to begin a three-day tournament.
