HAWLEY  — The Bulldogettes went 1-1 in their doubleheader scrimmage against the Hawley Lady Bearcats.

Saturday’s scrimmage marked the second time the Coahoma softball players tested their skills against another team this season, but it was the first game to include returning varsity members Cassie Grant, Caitlyn Corley, and Macee Green.

All three girls and freshman teammate Madison Rogers were finishing their last week of the basketball season when the Bulldogettes hosted the Andrews Lady Mustangs in a scrimmage Saturday, Feb. 2.

Bulldogettes hold off late rally

The Bulldogettes stopped a sixth-inning rally by the Lady Bearcats to win the first game 9-4.  After pitching a no-run, five-inning game, Coahoma pitcher Kenleigh Janeway faced a bases loaded situation with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Then a Hawley Bearcat hit a fly ball on a 2-2 pitch count to second baseman Kaylor Green who caught the ball for the out.

However, Hawley did get four runs before the last out, which was a grounder to third baseman Lexi Montelongo, but the comeback fell short thanks to the performance of the Coahoma offensive lineup that batted in nine runs during the six-and-half inning game. Macee Grant led the Bulldogettes at the plate earning three RBIs from three hits at three at-bats.

Montelongo earned the first RBI of the game after belting a double off a fly ball to left field to bring Madison Rogers across home plate. The the Bulldogettes swift feet stole seven bases in the game. M. Grant and Caitlyn Corley had two each.
