12 Coahoma FFA members qualify for area SDE

MIDLAND — Twelve members of the Coahoma FFA Chapter have advanced to the next level of competition after their performance at the district Speaking Development Event (SDE) held in Midland on Wednesday.

During the contest, students gave a prepared speech over an agricultural topic. The event is designed to encourage FFA members to develop their communication skills and to learn to tailor the message to fit to a variety of situations.

Students who placed first or second in their category qualified for area contest set for May 14-15 in San Angelo.

Results are as follows. 

Animal Science: 2 - Hartlie Smithie (area qualifier), 3 - Madison Olivas, 4 - Sydney Rinard, 5 - Tanner Atkins, 7 - Garrett Anderson, 8 -Damian Rains.

Agribusiness: 1 - Aubrey Green (area qualifier), 2 - Gaige Hill (area qualifier).

Tech and Comm: 1 - Brylea Gordon (area qualifier), 2- Kolt Redden (area qualifier), 3 - Jon Schneider, 4 - Richard Thurman.

Natural Resources - 1 - Cutter Atkins (area qualifier), 2 - Joe Mashburn (area qualifier), 4 - Katelyn Johnson, 6 - Braxton Chandler.

Plant Science: 1 - Julia Cox (area qualifier), 2 - Bryden Fontana (area qualifier), 3 - Cailey Glover.

Ag Policy: 2 - Naughtia Rockwell (area qualifier), 3 - Kaylee Kernick.

Jr Prepared Public Speaking, 1 - Emajin Braxton (area qualifier), 2 - Karissa Beeman (area qualifier).

Also at the district meet, Julia Cox, Aubrey Green, and Seth Brooks advanced to the next step in their run for officer positions. Emilee Custer and Ashley Crisp are running for an area office and completed more of the process that will determine the students that get to run for office at the area level. Cox, Green, and Brooks are running for district positions.
